Princess Deokon (1822-1844) was the third daughter of King Sunjo (r. 1800-1834) and Queen Sunwon (1789-1857). It is presumed that the date of the production and use of the seal was between 1829 and 1844 since she was entitled as “Deokon” in 1829 at the age of 7 (western age).
On the square base is a handle in the shape of a lion looking straight ahead with a bell pendant around its neck and its forelegs extended. The head and back of the lion are adorned with the mane, and its tail is hairy. The six characters “德溫公主之印” (‘deokongongjujiin’ meaning “the seal of Princess Deokon”) are incised on the seal.
