These seals belonged to the queen and empress of Joseon and the Korean Empire, who used them in practice on their official documents. They differ only in size but appear identical in their material and shape, thereby being presumed to be a set. Each seal is inscribed with “內敎” (‘naegyo’, the word implying “queen’s instructions”), and has a handle on the top in the shape of a lion, which sits on the rectangular seal body with its head turned and looking back. Unlike the royal seals crafted for ceremonial occasions stored in a square box with notable embellishment, these seals were kept in a simple black round case.
