This particular sutra is a reprinted edition made in 1485 (the 16th year of King Seongjong) by supplementing three missing woodblocks. The original was printed in May, 1474 (the 5th year of King Seongjong) to pray for the repose of the soul of Queen Gonghye, the first wife of King Seongjong (r. 1469-1495), who passed away one month before in the same year. A publishing note at the end of the sutra records the publishing date of this supplemented edition and its fund-raiser. A royal edition printed from woodblocks produced by famous carvers and financed by the palace, the sutra is a precious reference for the study of publishing and printing in early Joseon, as well as of the history of Buddhist faith in the Joseon royal household.
